Coward Punch Records is a small record label from Brisbane, Australia, started in 2017 with the main intention of releasing archival recordings of music made by Brendon Annesley on vinyl. Brendon was the editor of, and main contributor to the fanzine "The Negative Guest List," he also created a record label of the same name. He played in the bands "White Cop" and "Meat Thump." He passed away in 2012.


Meat Thump

Meat Thump was a Brisbane band active from 2010-2012, with Brendon Annesley on vocals and guitars and an ever changing lineup including members from White Cop, Kitchen's Floor, Wonderfuls, xNoBBQx, Per Purpose, Clever, Slug Guts and Low Life. The music is hard to pin down genre-wise, but drew upon influences such as The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed, The Rolling Stones, GG Allin, V3, Country Teasers, Townes Van Zandt, The Fall, Icky Boyfriends, The Saints/Chris Bailey, Lubricated Goat, The Electric Eels and many more great bands. They released tapes, CDrs and vinyl records on Negative Guest List Records, breakdance the dawn, The Loki Label, chemical imbalance, Eternal Soundcheck and Coward Punch Records.

The Negative Guest List

The Negative Guest was a fanzine started in 2009 by Brendon Annesley and featured contributors such as Dan Stewart (Distort fanzine, UV Race, Total Control, Straightjacket Nation, Lulu's Melbourne), Cooper Bowman (Roman Nails, Reunion Sacred Ibis, Altered States Tapes), Richie Charles Jr (Richie Records / Testostertunes, Watery Love, Clockcleaner), Matt Kennedy (Kitchen's Floor, White Cop, Meat Thump, French Horns, Look!Pond, Septic Tankers, Brick Brick, Sorry Golden State), Gordon Learmonth, Tammi-Louise Gleeson, Fleece Reynolds and many others. Over a 3 year period Brendon managed to put out a whopping 32 issues of the zine and sold hundreds of copies to punks and weirdos all over the world. Brendon's writing style was irreverant, hillarious, sometimes chaotic, brutally honest and pulled no punches. Vice magazine even did an interview with him.

The zine included interviews with artists and members of bands such as The Country Teasers, Icky Boyfriends, The Pagans, Mordecai, 13th Floor Elevators, Nudge Squidfish, Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, Kitchen's Floor, Slug Guts, Clockcleaner, Grong Grong, Crucifux, Purling Hiss, Der Teenage Panzerkorps, Thomas Function, Chrome Dome, Bits of Shit, Low Life, UV Race, Total Control, feedtime, Psychedelic Horseshit, Sea Scouts, 3 Toed Sloth, Pink Reason, Deaf Wish, Royal Headache, The Axemen, Lost Domain, Cheater Slicks, Cows, Circle Pit, Killdozer, The Unholy Two, DeGreaser, Ooga Boogas, Ratas Del Vaticano, FNU Ronnies, Meercaz, Taco Leg, Drunk Elk, Jonny Corndawg, Eat Skull, Rot Shit, xNoBQQx, Rusted Shut, Straight Arrows, Home Blitz, Tough Troubles, Puffy Areolas, Blank Realm, Marl Carx, Garbage and the Flowers, Guinea Worms and many, many more.

Negative Guest List Records started with a few compilation CDrs (Songs of Negativity) and cassette releases by White Cop, Kitchen's Floor and Meat Thump from 2009-2010. In 2011 the label started releasing vinyl by bands including Wonderfuls, Slug Guts, Hatefuck, Low Life, The Unholy Two, Blank Realm, Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, Eagle Boys, DeGreaser, The Lost Domain, Watery Love, 3 Toed Sloth, Mad Nanna, Sky Needle, Obnox, Ragtime Frank, Meat Thump and The Axemen. After Brendon's death his girlfriend and label partner Marriah Geles kept the label going until 2013, releasing a few more LPs.
